To be honest, we looked twice at the price, certain the folks at Amazon had made a mistake. But sure enough, they're right--and so is the price. Porter-Cable makes some of the best pneumatic tools in the industry, and these nailers are two prime examples. The 16-gauge is sturdy, compact, lighter and quieter than you'd expect with a grip even smaller hands can get around. Great balance, easy depth-of-drive adjustment, and a pleasure to use. Similarly, the 18-gauge is light but rugged, comfortable and maneuverable, even in awkward places or after long runs. Some other features we like: a special hardened driver blade, a sequential fire trigger, a visual reload indicator, a safety located behind the driver guide for driving brads in tight spaces and an easy-to-adjust depth guide. Both guns have directional exhausts, too. The pancake-style compressor has a six-gallon tank and easily runs both guns at the same time. It's light, portable and doesn't want much from you in terms of maintenance--it's oil-free and Teflon-coated. Some other reasons to like it: a high-flow regulator, an easy-to-read air pressure gauge, automatic thermal overload protection, an industrial-style quick-connect body in the air outlet, and a long-life motor with replaceable brushes. I have never had a problem with any of it since I bought it 4 years ago. Nice compressor and nail guns however it is kind of loud.
All I can say is it's easy to work, and it made what could be a tough job easy. The reason it got 4 stars is because like others have stated, it's loud. I used this compressor last year to put the wood floors down in my house. I on the other hand, love it. My wife and the pets hate it. It was also used to put up all kind of moldings and did it quickly, and neatly.
I've owned this set for about 6 months and have used the nailers regularly. Great deal for the money. I even added the framing nailer to the set all have performed flawlessly to this point.
I am pretty impressed with the quality of these three items. I would reccommend these items to anyone for the price and quality. I did some serious comparing with other nailer/compressor kits before buying this one and very glad I went with Porter Cable.
The compressor is a little loud, but that is expected, wear hearing protection when you will be with the compressor indoors (or when using most of the attachments). I have only used the brad nailer once to attach the back to a cabinet, it was incredably smooth, precise and easy.
I put trim up in three rooms. Using the finish nailer, I hung several interior doors in 15 minutes each, not a single mark on the frame.
I love this. It was my first venture into pneumatics, I was impressed.
I would buy it again. The loudness of the compressor makes me think it would not stand up to commercial applications, I am a casual user.
I spent more time at the saw than in the rooms.
