This saw also includes a carry case and ten blades.About GMC Magnesium With a continuous thirst for innovation, GMC invests heavily in research and design and has kept a close watch on innovations in non-powertool industries, such as aerospace and sporting goods. As a result, its tools feature design elements that reflect changes in those industries' various material developments. For instance, GMC tools have benefited enormously from the use of magnesium in their design. So what's so special about magnesium? It's simple: magnesium is lighter, stronger, and more durable. In fact, it is the lightest of the structural metals -- 75-percent lighter than steel, 50-percent lighter than titanium, and 32-percent lighter than aluminum. Many power tools on the market feature extensive use of aluminum, which can make them heavy to hold over extended periods of use. Unlike aluminum, magnesium components are lighter weight, and therefore reduce user fatigue and increase safety. Magnesium offers superior strength compared to other materials commonly used in the manufacturing process. This superior strength helps increase the durability and life of your tool for a longer period of time under rigid and frequent use. About Redeye Laser Guidance System Designed for the serious do-it-yourselfer, the Redeye range includes jigsaws, circular saws, miter saws, tile cutting saws, table saws, band saws, scroll saws, hammerdrills, and drill presses. Each Redeye equipped tool features a laser line generator incorporated into the product to provide unparalleled accuracy, faster set-up, and improved safety. The laser line generates a narrow beam of pure red light to provide an exact straight guide line that allows for the more accurate cuts and superior finishes. This laser guide is clearly visible and, unlike a pencil mark, it is never obscured by sawdust or debris. You can clearly see the laser line while you're standing upright, keeping your face well away from sawdust and wood chips. With Redeye on your side, not only will you be more efficient, but you'll also minimize your risk of injury. GMC AJS58LS 5.8 Amp Top Handle Jigsaw with Laser Reviews
it does not cut straight, just curved to the right. it is better to get a brand name than risk buying this tool. would not recommend it. it may work well for you but you will be taking a chance.
I just made a thin wood plate and hot glued it to the base. Several have commented about the base mount screws sticking out and marring wood. I had to cement the laser to the body to lined it up. I also got a free 360 laser with free shipping. With a new Amazon Visa it was free. I purchased this saw about three months ago.
At that time it was half the price ($25). As I have said, this is a nice saw but it is not worth $50. That was an easy fix. The saw has plenty of power and cuts accurately.
There are six screws on the bottom that hold a plastic chamber to hide extra blades (2). That is, by the way, where the extra two blades are (everybody else is saying there are only 8 blades when in fact there are 10 if you include the hidden blades in the chamber). I then spent 1/2 hour sanding it to get the marks out of it. I'll be sending this jigsaw to the neighborhood garage sale next month. That results in a non-flat surface on the bottom of the jigsaw. Everytime I use the jigsaw the thing cuts great and the laser works fine but what happens is that the underside screws leave marks on the surface of the wood.
Anyway, back to the point, the underside screws are very shallow (~0.25") so consequently they don't sit flush when screwed in. If you don't beleive me, go to Home Depot or Lowes and check out the jigsaw section. Again, how could a company miss this about their saw, makes you wonder about other aspects of it.
You'll notice that every other brand takes great care to leave a smooth, machined surface on the bottom plate that the jigsaw uses to make contact with the wood. How could the design engineers have missed that. The would be a spectacular saw for the price if it weren't for a serious lack of judgement by the engineers who designed it.
I used this jigsaw once on a very expensive piece of wood for my windowsill. If you are cutting quality wood, you'll have to sand the heck out of it to get the deep marks out.
Gentlemen; I love everything about my jigsaw. the hole inside is blocked completely, even adapter is restricted from going all the way in. except when I go to connect to dust vacume.
