A deceptively simple-looking tool, the BoWrench is a boon for both professional deck builders and do-it-yourselfers. The BoWench gives you a fast, one-person way to straighten decking boards. This is great, because decking material--whether redwood, cedar, or another, more exotic rot-resistant wood--is often warped, especially in 14- to 16-foot lengths. To operate the BoWrench, you simply fit the tool on a joist, swing the lever arm, and release. You can either push or pull boards into alignment, and when the handle is perpendicular, the tool locks in place, holding the board securely and leaving you free to drive nails or screws. The BoWrench is better than toenailing. Burying nails in the sides of decking to close gaps works, but it gives water more ways to enter the decking, which eventually leads to rot. With the BoWrench, you'll save time, create a longer-lasting surface, and maximize material. Using the special cam attachment (sold separately), the BoWrench replaces the clumsy beater block as the best way to close gaps in tongue-and-groove plywood and paneling. --Jon Groebner

Cepco Tool BW-2 BoWrench Decking Tool Reviews

The BoWrench tweaked them right into line. I didn't use it myself but my guys said it worked great and saved a lot of time in laying an ipe deck, 1x6 pieces that didn't really want to bend much.

a must for any serious deck builder, or even DIY guys, with a deck project. best $60 i ever spent. i was using a one inch hardwood on a deck and with the softness of modern day treated 2 x 6,coupled with the lack of straightness of the mangaress. then i brought the bowrench and hey presto, straightened out boards. i was having a hard time with the traditional method, of chisel driven into the framing and levering over the board, as this would usually end up with the soft 2 x 6, breaking away.

While building our deck, we chose to use longer boards which by nature, are very likely to be warped or twisted. (What good is using the longer boards to start with). This little gadget is simple to use, and incredibly effective. We would never try to build another large framing or decking project without it. It makes it very easy to work independently and still have two hands free to attach the board. We were able to salvage close to 100 board feet of lumber that we would have been otherwise unable to use, or would have had to cut down into smaller pieces to avoid the gaps.

Besides redecking my existing deck I added 384 sq ft. This tool is a must have for anyone laying a deck. I was even able to do it alone. This tool allowed me to straighten warped boards and keep them aligned.

We just finished installing a treated wood deck with about 4,000 linear feet of decking. Looking forward to using it with T&G adapter in the future. This tool was worth the price if only for this deck.
